One of the most important elements of a rogue to me is being able to jump right back in. So if you prefer the action half of the game, you still have to engage the sim elements a disproportionate amount.Įven at the core rogue-lite/like system, the sim elements get in the way. CoL falls a bit flat to me because the focus is SO strongly on the sim elements of the game, that they become not only what you spend most of your time on, but also the main mechanics to engage to help progression. When your game is largely based around two genres, they should mix well and be balanced such that you're equally playing both, since that mix of gameplay is part of the appeal. In this case, the player is tasked with creating and maintaining a cult and its followers, while adventuring into dungeons with some Hades like gameplay If you don't know, Cult of the Lamb is a hybrid action adventure rogue-lite mixed with a town creation sim. While Cult of the Lamb is very enjoyable, in my short time with it, I can't help but feel that this games draw of the mesh of two genres kind of falls flat. But I haven't really had a chance to talk about this game and I wanted to get this off my chest. First off, I apologize for being a bit ranty and game review-y as I know this isn't what this sub is about. ![]()
